Weekly food rations during World War II

By Judy Faraday

In 1941 food was severely rationed.  This is a picture of the weekly amount of basic food the government allowed per adult.  It led to many people being very creative with what they could cook for their families.  Everyone was given a ration book with coupons to buy their allowance in their local shops.  Kinghams in Watford was one of the shops to supply many people in the local area but there was seldom enough to go round!
